About Vistaserv.net

Vistaserv.net is a hobby website from Thornbury, Australia. It started off as a bit of a joke between the co-creators. We have a healthy amount of nostalgia for the quirky web of the 90s, before walled gardens took over, where everyone who had access to the World Wide Web could create a free site and customise it, really make it their own – from garish colours and flashing GIFs to truly innovative designs. But we don't just want this website to be a nostalgia trip.

We realised that many tight-knit fringe communities exist on the World Wide Web, but not many folks know about them. More importantly, not many folks have had the privilege of experiencing the total freedom of having a Geocities, or Tripod, or even MySpace home page to completely customise, and express yourself. We thought we could perhaps give it a go ourselves, provide users the opportunity to create a simple home page with a very low bar to entry. Partly for the fun of building it, partly as a social experiment in the "small", "local" Internet, and partly just because we think horribly aliased fonts look great.

We hope you enjoy what we've made. We're keen to hear from you, whether it be with a question, suggestion, or whatever else. This is very much still a work in progress. Give it a spin and tell us what you think. If you really like it, we're accepting donations towards hosting charges: https://ko-fi.com/vistaserv.
